This page contains a range of market reports which I have written covering connected devices, wearables and hearables. They have been widely referenced within the industry, particularly within the hearables industry. All of them are free to download.
The Hearables Report 2020-2025
Since its inception in 2013, hearables have become the fastest growing consumer technology sector we have ever seen. Far from slowing down, that growth is continuing, providing massive opportunities for innovation in the sector as new entrants challenge Apple’s dominance.
Four years on from my original report, this looks at the current status of the hearables market and predicts where it will go in the coming six years.
The Market for Hearable Devices 2016-20
The original report on the newly emerging hearables market. Apple’s unexpected entry into the hearables market heralded a period of major change, with a massive increase in the take-up of earbuds, and the prospect of an overall market revenue exceeding $40 billion in 2020. This earlier report looks at the opportunities and challenges and predicted the potential market size.
The Market for Smart Wearables
In 2015, consumer electronics industry had convinced itself that wearable technology would be the next big thing, with analysts predicting a market worth over $30 billion by 2020, driven by a desperate need for major companies to find something to follow on from laptops, tablets and PCs all of which are being commoditised. This report took a contrary viewpoint, building the market opportunity from known consumer behaviour and preferences. It suggested that the market would still reach $30 billion in 2020, but with a very different mix of products being made by some very different companies.
